RISALPUR: The US could play a crucial role in resolving the Kashmir dispute, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday.
In an interview with APP, the PM hoped to see proactive engagement by the new Trump administration to help resolve the long-running dispute between Pakistan and India, which is the biggest impediment to peace in the South Asian region.
“With regard to Kashmir, America can play a very critical role, which it has not done,” the prime minister said, adding that the whole world, including the United States, was well aware of the danger the dispute posed to world peace and to the stability in the region.
“We wish to see progress towards the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, which is the biggest hurdle in the way of peace and development in the region and the whole world, including the United States, is fully aware of this reality,” the PM said.
“We want trade not aid from the United States,” the PM said. He said that Pakistan wished to have cordial relations with all countries, including the United States, on the basis of mutual respect. “As a result of wide-ranging economic reforms and lucrative incentives offered by the present government, Pakistan had become an ideal destination for foreign investment,” he said.
