The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that the ninth spell of monsoon will continue for the next 24 to 48 hours. Rain is expected to persist in northern parts of the country, while heavy downpours are also likely in southern regions from September 6. These include southern Punjab, southern Sindh, and coastal areas like Badin, Sujawal, and Tharparkar.
According to NDMA, unusual rainfall and rising river levels have already created flood-like conditions in several areas. The agency stated that a major flood risk could occur at Panjnad, where water from the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers will converge between September 4 and 5. Heavy rainfall has already been recorded in the past 24 hours in Narowal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Lahore.
The NDMA said flood-sensitive areas have been identified in advance, and provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAs) have been alerted. Residents in vulnerable regions are urged to follow official instructions and avoid unnecessary travel. People living in flood-prone areas should take safety precautions immediately.
In line with the prime minister’s special directive, all concerned departments have been ordered to take timely and effective action. NDMA confirmed that over 5,700 tonnes of relief goods have already been delivered to flood victims. Authorities are working to ensure rapid and efficient relief delivery across all affected regions.
The NDMA added that government agencies, welfare organizations, and the Pakistan Armed Forces are jointly coordinating relief efforts. A unified strategy is being used to reach those in need. Authorities have called on citizens to remain alert and cooperate with officials during the ongoing monsoon emergency.
